We aim to begin to teach children to understand the immediate and global environment, and our place within this. We want children to study the natural environment and to begin to recognise the impact of humans on it. Geographical language is developed within a variety of age appropriate themes.
Children study the school and its locality initially and they visit local spaces. All children study the UK and contrasting different areas within it.
In the Spring Term all the school focuses on one non -European country as the theme, culminating in a special assembly to showcase the learning.
Skills such as following directions, map reading and map making, and recognising and naming basic geographical features are developed.
Globes, pictures, photographs, stories, information texts, artifacts, and the internet, are resources used to enhance our work.
