Religious Education

This remains a compulsory subject. We follow the agreed RE syllabus for Essex, ‘EXPLORE’ which reflects the fact  that Britain is still mainly a Christian society, but also importantly takes into account the teaching and practice of other principal religions represented our modern multicultural society and in our school. It is a strength of the school that there are many religions represented. Lessons about particularly Islam have been enriched by the contributions of some of the children and in Year 2 we invite parents of different faiths to talk to the children. We aim to foster an understanding of and respect for all religious beliefs. For young children much of this is taught through stories, and we cover:

  • Christianity
  • Islam
  • Hinduism
  • Sikhism
  • Judaism
  • Buddhism

In Year 2 we also consider that some people have no faith.
