Geography

WALT use maps to locate Mexico.

Where is Mexico? Talk about any information you have found out about Mexico. Which continent is Mexico in? Which ocean? What do you think the weather will be like?

Look at the map on PP above. Look at where Mexico is above Equator in between the Tropic of Cancer. What do you think Mexico is like? Use Google Earth and discuss what the yellow and green areas mean – dessert, arid lands, volcanoes near Mexico City, rainforests, beaches.

Legend has it that they built Tenochtitlan (today it's Mexico City) after seeing an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake, which is the symbol in the middle of today's Mexican flag. Look at the images on PP – Rio Grande, Cooper Canyon, Tulum Beach and Cancun. Using the maps from last week,  to locate these places on your maps. These are physical features – the earth made them, not humans. What could be human features? See on the PP images of human features – Mayan and Aztec pyramids and temples, churches, houses.
