History Statement of Intent

At Limes Farm Infant School and Nursery, History has always been a subject which we are passionate about. We believe that History helps the children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. This helps in stimulating children’s curiosity to know more about the past and how it has affects the present and the future.

History develops children’s ability to ask questions, think critically, find and analyse evidence to develop perspective understanding of how and why events may have happened.

History promotes the children’s interest in the complexity of peoples  lives, the process of change, the diversities of societies and relationships between different groups.

At our school we seek to inspire in children curiosity and understanding of their own identity and the challenges of their time.

The aims of studying History in our school are that pupils will:

1. Acquire an interest in the past and an enjoyment of the subject.

2. Begin to consider how the past influences the present.

3. Be encouraged to ask questions and formulate opinions about events in the past.

4. Develop a sense of identity through learning about their immediate past.
