This week we are starting to introduce Phase 2, Set 1 sounds. Watch videos of Mr Thorne does phonics to learn your sounds every day.
Monday:
Introduce the first sound 's'; can you remember Jolly Phonics action for it? Try to write letter S.
Tuesday:
Introduce sound 'a'; can you do an action? Try to write letter a.
Wednesday:
Introduce sound 't'; can you remember the action? Try to write letter t.
Thursday:
Introduce sound 'p'. Can you do the action? Write letter p.
Friday:
Recap the sounds you have learned (s, a, t, p). Can you think of any words around the house that start with this sound? Go on the 'initial sound hunt', e.g., sound 's' - spoon, stairs, etc. or you could play 'I spy with my little eye something beginning s'...
In Set 1, the first four letters are introduced and seven words can be used for segmenting and blending (writing and reading):
at, a, sat, pat, tap, sap, as
You can play free online games for Phase Two of the Letters and Sounds phonics programme. In these games you need to click in the top row to show a letter card, then click in the bottom row to show a picture. If the letter matches the initial sound of the object in the picture then you have found a match. If not you can keep trying until you match all the cards.
