Maths Statement of Intent

At Limes Farm Infant School and Nursery we are committed to ensuring that children are given the best possible skills in order to thrive, regardless of their prior Mathematical knowledge. We facilitate this by making Maths exciting, purposeful and interesting for all children.

We have selected the White Rose Scheme to underpin our planning, as it allows for all children to become fluent in the fundamentals of Maths, developing their conceptual understanding and their ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.

Every child can then develop a sound understanding of Maths, providing them with the skills of calculation, reasoning and problem solving that are essential to every day life.

Their understanding of concepts is challenged through solving problems and later, applying this Mathematical knowledge. Our children are given access to a variety of Mathematical opportunities, enabling them to make connections in learning, develop and use new vocabulary and discuss this with accuracy. When our children move forward in their learning journey, they are confident mathematicians who are independent, inquisitive and unafraid to take risks.
