Reading

Your child will now be bringing one one book weekly. The books will be sent home on Mondays, to be kept at home and returned the following Monday.

It is recommended that you read the 1 book throughout the week with your child as this will develop their fluency and full understanding of the story.

Here are some suggested activities you do with your child throughout the week whilst reading:

Monday:

Look at the front cover/read the title. Read inside of the front cover 'before reading' page. Look at the tricky words within the book, try to decode them. Recap the sounds you will need throughout the book etc. Predict what you think the book might be about.

Tuesday:

Recap those tricky words from yesterday. Begin reading the book. Identify any tricky words. Try to decode them. Predict what will happen next.

Wednesday:

 Continue reading the book, recap the tricky words. Are they remembered? Was your prediction correct? Can you retell the story in your own words?

Thursday:

Re-read the story. Use the Year 1 reading book to ask questions about the book. (attached below)

Friday:

Your child's fluency with the book should have developed across the week. Re-read the book. Complete the questions at the back of the back cover.

There is a great new website named Oxford Owls, which you can find at

Here you can read books that are related to your colour level and complete some mini activities. I have created a class login so you can access this at home. The login details are;
